Taiwan’s stainless steel producers Yieh United Steel Corporation (Yusco) and Tang Eng Iron Works Co., Ltd. (Tang Eng) filed an anti-dumping (AD) investigation against Vietnam in October 2025, but withdrew it due to insufficient documentation.
However, imports have been increasing month by month again, with June imports surging 11-fold, leading producers to re-apply for an investigation in July.
The applicants indicated that Vietnamese stainless steel imports have reached a large scale since 2023 and 2024, with prices lower than the local Taiwanese market. These practices have impacted the local market and caused harm to local producers.
The first AD investigation was withdrawn because the customs authority requested more supporting documents to avoid prolonging the investigation and causing further harm to producers.
In the second quarter of 2026, mills found that Vietnamese imports surged again as stainless steel prices rose and the NTD appreciated.
In the first half of 2026, Vietnamese stainless steel imports reached over 17,000 tons. June imports reached 6,196 tons, which is 11 times the volume of February. Import prices were around US$80-100 per ton lower than local price levels.
