Japan plans to impose temporary anti-dumping (AD) duties starting in July on nickel-based cold-rolled stainless steel sheets and coils from China and Taiwan, claiming low-priced imports harmed local businesses. China faces dumping margins between 33.29% and 45.32%, whereas Taiwanese suppliers face lower figures ranging from 3.86% to 20.71%.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs announced yesterday (June 22) that the overall export damage is limited. China Steel Corporation (CSC) does not manufacture the investigated products. Major exporter Yieh United Steel Corporation (Yusco) obtained the lowest rate at 3.86%, preserving its market edge. Meanwhile, Walsin Lihwa mostly exports other non-investigated products to Japan.
Domestic steelmakers noted that the Japanese market constitutes a minor share of Taiwan’s total exports. Government officials pledge to maintain dialogue with Japanese counterparts and assist local industries in adopting AI and low-carbon tech.
