Japan preliminarily confirms dumping margins for cold-rolled stainless steel from Taiwan & China

The Japanese government announced last Friday (June 19) that it has preliminarily determined that nickel-based stainless steel cold-rolled strips and cold-rolled steel sheets from Taiwan and China are involved in unfair dumping at low prices.

Temporary anti-dumping (AD) duties are expected to be imposed as early as July, with Taiwanese products facing the highest additional tariff of approximately 21% and Chinese products reaching up to 45%.

However, industry insiders believe the actual impact will not be as severe as expected. According to customs statistics, Taiwan exported approximately 124,000 tons of 304 stainless steel cold-rolled sheets in the first five months of this year, of which only 6,400 tons were exported to Japan, accounting for about 5.16% of total exports.

According to an official report released by Japan, the dumping margins are 3.86% to 20.71% for Taiwanese suppliers and 33.29% to 45.32% for Chinese suppliers.
