The Colombian Steel Chamber (Camacero) projects that reconstruction efforts for housing and infrastructure after the earthquake in August of this year will boost apparent steel consumption in the country, reaching 3.85 million tons in 2026 and 4.2 million tons in 2027, which represents annual growth rates of 7.1% and 9.3%, respectively.
The industry chamber expects that 70% of this growth will consist of long products, 25% of flat products, and 5% of pipes.
Meanwhile, domestic production is expected to remain stable at approximately 1.2 million tons per year, while steel imports are projected to reach 3 million tons by 2027.
