According to data from the Brazilian Steel Institute (IABr), the Brazilian steel industry recorded a production of 33.3 million tons of crude steel in 2025, representing a year-on-year decrease of 1.6%. This decline reflected the challenges of the domestic market in the face of strong competition from imported steel.
Steel imports exerted significant pressure, notably the 20.5% increase in rolled steel, reaching 5.7 million tons. This influx reduced the local industry’s market share in the domestic market.
Despite this adverse scenario in the domestic market, the sector partially offset the results through the international market. Exports grew by 14.7%, totaling 11 million tons and demonstrating the international competitiveness of Brazilian steel, which sustained the performance of Brazil’s steel production in 2025.
