UMB Steel Completes ArcelorMittal Hunedoara Takeover Deal

All conditions for the takeover of ArcelorMittal Hunedoara by UMB Steel have been met, according to representatives of the company selling the steel plant, which means Dorinel Umbrarescu officialy becomes the steel plant’s owner.

“Further to the report dated 19.02.2026, in which we informed you that the Company had signed with UMB Steel S.R.L. the transaction documents regarding the sale of the Company’s assets (‘the Transaction’) for a total price of €12,500,000 (+applicable VAT), we hereby inform you that all suspensive conditions agreed by the parties for the completion of the Transaction have been fulfilled,” ArcelorMittal Hunedoara stated in a report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The Competition Council approved last week the transaction through which UMB Steel S.R.L. intended to acquire the assets belonging to ArcelorMittal Hunedoara S.A.

The assets involved in the transaction mainly consist of production equipment and installations, materials and stocks, as well as land and buildings related to the factory in Hunedoara County, and certain real estate assets located outside it. ArcelorMittal Hunedoara ceased its activity in September 2025.

Following its analysis, the Competition Council found that the operation does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition on the Romanian market or a substantial part of it, and that there are no serious doubts regarding its compatibility with a normal competitive environment.

ArcelorMittal Hunedoara informed investors in February that the documents had been signed for the acquisition of the steel plant by Dorinel Umbrărescu’s company.

The transaction had been announced at the end of last year.
