Taiwan’s CSC expected to maintain Q4 wire rod pricing amid weak downstream demand

China Steel Corporation (CSC) is expected to announce flat pricing for its fourth-quarter wire rod products in early September, prioritizing downstream competitiveness as order intake remains sluggish.

Asian steel mill pricing presented a mixed outlook, with Baosteel issuing consecutive monthly increases while Formosa Ha Tinh Steel lowered quotes. Raw material trends showed declining iron ore costs paired with stable coking coal expenses, though ongoing depreciation of the New Taiwan dollar maintains import cost pressures.

Furthermore, Chinese domestic wire rod prices extended recent declines, yet export quotations stabilized.

Pre-pricing consultations with local wire and hand tool manufacturers revealed persistent demand weakness, leading market participants to project stable pricing for the upcoming quarter.
