South Korea’s POSCO could regain access to Taiwan’s steel plate market as upcoming trade reviews may reshape competition among foreign suppliers.
POSCO’s anti-dumping (AD) duty rose from 4.02% to 19.99% following the previous sunset review, effectively pricing its steel plates out of the Taiwanese market and leaving Hyundai Steel as the main South Korean supplier.
With another review scheduled for July 2027, POSCO is expected to seek a lower duty rate to resume exports. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) is considering requesting a separate investigation into Japanese steel plate imports, which have increased in recent years.
If Japanese suppliers face additional duties, POSCO could potentially fill part of the supply gap, provided it secures a more favorable tariff. Both developments remain subject to Taiwan’s trade authorities.
