Novelis president and CEO Steve Fisher said that producing the first coil on the cold mill represents an important milestone in starting up Bay Minette and increasing the supply of rolled aluminum in the US.
The first fully integrated US aluminum recycling and rolling plant built in the US in over 40 years, Bay Minette will add 600 kilotonnes of annual rolled aluminum capacity for beverage packaging, automotive, and specialty markets. It also includes a recycling center capable of processing more than 15 billion used beverage cans annually and is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs at full operation.
All assets required for commercial shipments are in commissioning, with customer qualification and shipments on track to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
