The 5xxx series of aluminium alloys is valued for its corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio and excellent weldability. These properties make 5xxx-series flat-rolled products (FRP), excluding foil, suitable for applications exposed to demanding operating conditions, including shipbuilding, offshore structures, marine equipment, automotive components and construction. The alloys also offer fabrication flexibility, supporting their use in structural applications and potentially in aerospace.
Demand for these products is expected to increase across North and South America through 2032, although the two regions present distinct market opportunities. North America is set to maintain its position as the larger consumer, supported by established manufacturing industries, electric vehicle (EV) adoption and infrastructure investment. South America, meanwhile, offers a smaller but steadily expanding market, with Brazil playing the leading role in regional consumption.
As per AL Circle’s research in “Aluminium Flat Rolled Products: Insights & Forecast to 2030”, North America’s demand for 5xxx-series FRP is expected to rise from 1.79 million tonnes in 2025 to 2.23 million tonnes by 2032. South America’s consumption is forecast to increase from 502,710 tonnes to 602,020 tonnes over the same period.
