New Zealand launches safeguard probe on aluminum extrusions

New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has launched a safeguard investigation into certain aluminum extrusion products. The WTO Committee on Safeguards released the official notification from the New Zealand delegation on May 28, 2026.

The products involved are aluminum alloy profiles, bars, and rods manufactured via an extrusion process, classified under New Zealand tariff codes 7604.21.00 00B (hollow profiles) and 7604.29.09 00F (other). These goods contain metallic elements from the 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, or 7 Aluminium Association alloy series. They include worked or unworked extrusions with mill, mechanical, anodized, painted, or coated finishes.

Due to existing trade agreements with New Zealand, Australia and Singapore are excluded from this investigation.
