Norwegian aluminum producer Hydro finalized a five-year supply contract with Nexans to deliver about 85,000 tonnes of low-carbon aluminum wire rod between 2026 and 2030.
The material features Hydro REDUXA, a product using Norwegian renewable energy that generates less than one-third of the global carbon footprint average. Nexans intends to apply this aluminum in medium-voltage grids, overhead transmission lines, and subsea high-voltage infrastructure across Europe.
This commitment is in line with Hydro’s capacity expansion at its Karmøy primary aluminum plant in Norway.
Europe faces high demand for electricity grid modernizations to transition toward domestic renewable power. Since Norway supplies 40% of primary aluminum in Europe, this secure partnership prevents material bottlenecks and reinforces supply chain resilience during regional electrification.
