Chinese zinc-aluminum-magnesium (Zn-Al-Mg) coated steel producers face excess capacity following years of investment, while supplies of specialized grades remain insufficient. Growing domestic applications have therefore not translated into stronger conditions across the industry.
Solar mounting systems are a major source of demand, with the material replacing conventional galvanized steel. Its use is also spreading to agricultural equipment, storage racks and outdoor structures, supported by corrosion resistance and savings on additional galvanizing.
However, competition among solar mounting suppliers continues to depress processing fees. Steel prices have also retreated from their late-May peak, with cost support and subdued buying expected to limit further movement.
Exporters face another constraint after Thailand expanded anti-dumping measures to Chinese Zn-Al-Mg coated products. Although direct exposure to Thailand is relatively small, the ruling adds pressure as producers seek higher-value export business to improve their product mix.
