China-based China Aluminum International Engineering Co., Ltd. (CHALIECO) has won the bid for an engineering, procurement, and construction contract covering a 2.4 million-tonne-per-year alumina project in Vietnam, marking another major investment in the country’s mineral processing sector. The project is being developed by Binh Phuoc Ore Mining and Beneficiation Joint Stock Company.
The proposed EPC contract is valued at approximately US$833 million, equivalent to around CNY 5.595 billion. The project is expected to be completed within 27 months from the contract’s effective date.
Under the turnkey arrangement, CHALIECO’s scope will cover engineering design, equipment and material supply, construction, installation, commissioning and personnel training for the alumina refinery.
The company said the project could expand its overseas business and support future earnings if the contract is formally signed and implemented as planned. However, the final contract value and implementation terms have not yet been confirmed, while the overseas project remains subject to risks including regulatory changes, foreign exchange controls, and local economic conditions.
