The war between USA, Israel and Iran is affecting Bangladesh. The cost of cement in Bangladesh is going up because of this war. The construction business in Bangladesh is facing a lot of problems. The prices of steel bar and cement are increasing.
The price of steel rod has gone up by BDT15,000 per ton which’s US$122 per ton. The price of cement has also increased by BDT50 per bag in the month. This is happening because the cost of fuel and transporting goods is going up worldwide.
The people who make these construction materials say that they have to increase prices because the cost of importing materials and making the products is going up.
Because of this the sales of rod and cement have gone down by than 30 per cent in the last month. Many construction projects are being delayed because the cost of materials is too high.
S M Arifuzzaman, who sells Confidence Cement says that the price of cement has gone up from BDT470 to BDT520 per bag. The price of rod has also increased by over BDT16,000 per ton. He says that sales have fallen by 30 to 40 per cent.
The main reason for this is the increasing cost of importing clinker, which’s a key ingredient in making cement. Mohammed Amirul Haque, who is the President of the Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association says that the cost of importing clinker has gone up from US$45 to US$55 per ton.
