Turkey’s HRC imports fall in Jan-Feb

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports reached around 652,000 tons in the first two months of this year, falling by 2.3% compared to the year-ago period. The import value dropped by 14% year on year to US$365 million.

Among them, the supply from China accounted for the largest share, totaling roughly 243,000 tons, down by 25% year on year. Russia ranked second with 165,000 tons, a year-on-year surge of 921%, followed by South Korea’s 79,000 tons with a year-on-year hike of 89%.

In February alone, Turkey imported around 227,000 tons of HRC, falling by 47% month on month and by 10% year on year. The value generated by these imports was US$127 million, down by 47% from the preceding month and by 20% year on year.
