Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco), a leading stainless steel manufacturer in Taiwan, has planned to file an anti-dumping (AD) complaint with the Ministry of Finance over a surge in low-priced stainless steel cold-rolled imports from Vietnam.
Yusco says imports soared from just 2,066 tons in 2023 to 30,524 tons in 2024, with prices below local market levels. The company believes the flood of cheap imports is damaging Taiwan’s stainless steel industry, which is already struggling amid weak global demand.
Vietnam’s stainless steel capacity has tripled since 2009, leading to oversupply and exports to other countries such as Taiwan after South Korea imposed AD duties. Yusco warned that the development of Taiwan’s domestic industry may be injured if trade remedies are not taken immediately.
