Japan’s stainless steel cold-rolled flat steel imports fall in May

According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japan’s imports of stainless steel cold-rolled flat steel products totaled around 17,700 tons in May, falling by 4.0% from the previous month and by 1.7% from the same month in the previous year.

Among them, imports from China rose by 30.1% to 10,290 tons. Conversely, imports from Taiwan fell by 42.7% to about 3,470 tons, and those from South Korea declined by 11.6% to around 3,300 tons.

In the first five months of this year, cumulative imports amounted to nearly 90,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, with Chinese volumes up by 26.1% to 44,000 tons and Indonesia’s soaring by 7.8 times to 3,900 tons.
