Fire hits Tang Eng’s stainless steel plant in Kaohsiung; no injuries reported

Late Tuesday (December 30) night, a fire broke out at the Tang Eng Iron Works stainless steel plant in Kaohsiung’s Siaogang District. The blaze started around 11:30 PM at the No. 3 cold rolling machine, reportedly sparked by a steel plate slip that ignited nearby oil tanks.

Nineteen fire trucks and 46 personnel responded, evacuating 50 employees. The fire was brought under control within an hour and fully extinguished by 1:52 AM on Wednesday.

In a statement today, Tang Eng confirmed that the No. 1 and No. 2 machines will handle production while the damaged unit undergoes repairs. Since the facility is insured, the company expects minimal impact on overall finances and output.
