ArcelorMittal urges immediate EU action on new steel tariff quota

ArcelorMittal is again urging the European Commission to swiftly enact the tariff quota announced in October. The steelmaker warns that record imports are threatening the survival of EU producers and the broader manufacturing sector’s security.

The company believes the measure is vital for ensuring a stable steel supply. It is preparing to ramp up production across its European mills to meet anticipated demand shifts, thereby ensuring it can respond quickly to customers and maintain supply chain integrity. This would also support jobs and economic value within Europe.

Addressing concerns from some steel users about potential supply disruptions or price hikes, Geert Van Poelvoorde, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe, assured that European production capacity is adequate.
