Vietnam seeks cancellation of prohibition on scrap metal imports
According to the report, the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) hoped the government could cancel the prohibition on scrap metal imports in order to continually import the scrap metal. In fact, the domestic scrap metal just provided 40% of the demand in Vietnam, so steelmakers had to rely on the imports.

It was understood that the Vietnam mills imported scrap more than 2.6 million tons in the first half of this year, which were mainly imported from Japan, the United States and Hong Kong. The VSA expected the scrap import to reach 19 million tons from 2018 to 2020.
