Vale uses new FDMS technology for iron ore concentration
According to reports, Vale used FDMS (Fines Dry Magnetic Separation) technology in a pilot plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil. By using rare earth magnets, it can be used to concentrate 30 tons per hour, and the whole process didn't require the use of water.
The pilot plant is located in the Vale's Ferrous Metals Technology Center (CTF) in Minas Gerais, which is its second plant using FDMS technology for mineral processing operations.
Vale saw the potential of this technology, and related patents have been recognized in 59 countries. It was expected that by 2024, 1% of Vale’s total production will use this technology.
