Vale halts production at 8 mines so far
Vale S.A. is the world's largest iron ore producer and exporter. On January 25th, more than 300 people died or disappeared from the accident at Feijao tailings dam in the town of Brumadinho. After the accident, Vale's several mines have been ordered to be stopped production. Now, the city government of Nova Lima also ordered Vale to halt operation at Dique III tailings dam in Mina Gerais state, and the number of mines that Vale has stopped production has reached eight.

However, the shutdown of Dique III tailings dam would not have a further impact on the production of iron ore for Vale as the iron ore production base in Vargem Grand was ordered to be stopped production by the Brazilian Mining Authority (ANM) on February 22nd which was in order to avoid accident caused by soil liquefaction as Feijao tailings dam.
