US launches Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis system
The US Department of Commerce (USDOC) launched a new program, Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIM) system, to track aluminum trade flows. As an early warning mechanism, this system will help the industry find trade trends and flows.

According to Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, the new program will let businesses and the public easily find potential transshipment and circumvention of aluminum products, which will thereupon ensure a fair competitive environment for the domestic industry.

The new AIM system website is operating. The importers related to aluminum products will need to get AIM licenses from January 25.

The products involved in this system are under HTS codes 7601, 7604, 7605, 7606, 7607, 7608, 7609, 7616.99.51.60, and 7616.99.51.70, which match the scope of the Section 232 aluminum tariffs.
