US House of Representatives approves new monitoring system for imported aluminum
In order to achieve early warning of excessive imports, the US House of Representatives recently voted to introduce the Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIMA) system to track aluminum importation into the US.

The committee agreed to allocate US$800,000 to build this system and strengthen data analysis and research on the global trading trends of aluminum products.

The US manufacturers believed due to the US Department of Commerce (USDOC)'s poor supervision, the amount of Canadian aluminum imports has created too much uncertainty for the US domestic market, so the Congress was asked to pay attention to this issue.

The Aluminum Association's next step required the USDOC to review section 232 on import tariff reduction of Canadian aluminum.
