United States blocked creation of arbitration group in WTO on dispute on steel and aluminum duties
Almaty. October 30. KazTAG - The United States has blocked creation of an arbitration group in the World Trade Organization (WTO) on steel and aluminum duties dispute, reports TASS.
“The United States (...) have blocked the establishment of a WTO arbitration group to consider the dispute on steel and aluminum tariffs. Russia intends to re-request establishment of the arbitration group in November. Then the group will be established automatically, the US will have no right to block this decision for the second time," reads the statement of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.
The United States introduced duties on imports of steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) in March this year. They apply to all countries except Australia and Argentina. Brazil and South Korea are exempted only from duties on steel. In June, Russia asked the WTO to consult with the United States on US import duties on steel and aluminum. In addition to Russia, these duties are also disputed by China, India, the EU, Canada, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
