Taiwanese steel mills to forced to cut production, stop work in 2019 due to slag treatment problem
According to the statistics, Taiwan produced 3.1 million tons of slag from steelmaking every year. Due to high standards for environmental protection, it made these slag nowhere to go, forcing steelmakers and steel mills to cut production or even stop work.

It was reported that China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Dragon Steel Corporation (DSC) produced around 1.6 million tons of blast-furnace (BF) slag, while the other 19 electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steel mills would also produce about 1.5 million tons of slag, totaling 3.1 million tons.

Because the major steel mills were subject to high standards of environmental protection, they could not dispose slag without the permission of the government and the slag produced were piled up in the factory.

At present, the major steel mills were renting land everywhere to keep slag. Some steel mills said that they had found that it was hard to find land for keeping slag. If the slag treatment problem was not solved, there was no other way but to cut production or stop work in 2019.
