Spanish steel imports grow by 8.6% in 2018 despite EU's safeguards measures
According to data from the Spanish Steel Industry Association (UNESID), the safeguards measures imposed by the European Union last year had no expected effects. In 2018, Spain imported 8.6% more steel compared to the previous year. Among all, purchases from third countries increased by 21% year-on-year.

In 2018, Spain imported 10.8 million tons of steel, which UNESID believed that these purchases in overseas were doing harm to the national steel sector.

As for 2019, it maintained the negative outlook and forecasted that imports' continuous growth could be a greater risk in this year.
