Sierra Mineral gradually resumes bauxite production
Sierra Mineral Holdings 1 Limited, a large bauxite mining company in Moyamba, Sierra Leone, said it has cut its production since the beginning of this year due to the decreased demand for bauxite caused by the novel coronavirus epidemic, and it planned to resume its output to a monthly production capacity of 150,000 tons in May, higher by April’s 120,000 tons, since the market now turned better.

Sierra Mineral’s annual production capacity of bauxite was 2 million tons, and its output in 2019 was around 1.8 million tons. The firm aimed to produce approximately 1.5 million tons of bauxite this year, lower than the target of 2 million tons set at the beginning of the year.

In the first four months of this year, Sierra Mineral’s bauxite production totaled roughly 500,000 tons.
