Rio Tinto's Amrun to go into full capacity for bauxite

It was reported that the global mining leader Rio Tinto said its bauxite mine of Amrun project in the north of Australia will go into full capacity with the expansion of facility, and the total production will be estimated at 22.8 million tons per year. It will increase Weipa production about one third to 35 million tons. Rio Tinto produced around 50 million tons bauxite per year, which accounted for 15% of global supply.

Rio Tinto CEO Jean-Sebastien Jacques said that the relative project and harbor construction will replace Weipa, and it will increase 10 million tons for exporting bauxite. In the same time, high quality bauxite will be rarer in the global.

Amrun project was approved for expansion in November 2015, which was originally estimated for production in the first half of 2019, and it will fulfill fully capacity in the end of 2019.
