Large number of nickel ore exports from Indonesia arouses doubts
Indonesia will inspect all nickel mining companies that are holding the mining rights (Kuasa Pertambangan, KP). The Indonesian government has found that the actual exports of nickel ore differed from the data showed by China, almost twice the difference.

Luhut, Indonesian Maritime and Investment Coordinating Minister, believed that there might be loopholes in exports. He said that the Indonesian government would investigate those nickel ore companies which exported more than quotas or did not possess nickel smelting capacity. Even the construction progress of smelting plants that these companies reported did not match the facts.

Luhut said that the government will crack down such illegal activities and it would ban nickel ore exports within a week or two from October 29th. When the export volume returned to normal, the government will reopen the exports.
