Indian steelmakers calling on government to ban steel imports from Iran
Since the number of steel imports from Iran appeared nearly five times the growth, on behalf of Indian major iron and steel enterprises, the Indian Steel Association (ISA), urged the government to ban on imports of steel products from Iran immediately.

The association said last week that steel exports from Iran to India had increased after the US imposed sanctions on Iran.

As the world's 10th largest producer, Iran has steadily increased steel production over the past eight years while its domestic demand for steel has shrunk. It was said that Iran's per capita consumption of crude steel fell by 14%, but its total excess capacity has climbed by 36% to around 12 million ton.

According to statistics, about 30% of steel exports flowed to the ASEAN region, which also increased the possibility of Iranian steel flowing to India through a third country.
