Indian aluminum producers seek increase in import tariffs
Indian domestic aluminum producers have urged the government in the Budget for 2021-22 to raise the import duty on primary aluminum and aluminum scrap to 10% from the current 7.5%-2.5%, so as to curb the increase in imports.

Besides, they were also seeking an elimination on GST compensation cess of around Rs 400/ton on coal, in order to support the development of high-power-consuming industries, such as the aluminum industry.

Indian aluminum producers pointed out that 60% of the domestic aluminum demand depended on imports even though India has sufficient production capacity itself.
