Indian aluminum imports may be curbed by import tariffs
It was reported that the import volume of finished aluminum products in India has increased by over 50% year-to-date. The domestic market segment has shrunk rapidly, and it has seriously affected the domestic aluminum processing enterprises in India.
The China-US trade war has led to a significant flow of aluminum products to India, while aluminum products from countries which have signed free trade agreements with India such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea were also exported to India.
Therefore, the original aluminum producers requested to increase the import tariff on primary aluminum from 7.5% to 10%, and the import tariff on downstream aluminum products increased from 10% and 7.5% to 15% and 12.5% respectively.
