IAI: Global aluminum industry must aim emissions reduction for climate change goals
The International Aluminium Institute (IAI) said that the global aluminum industry must cut greenhouse gas emissions by 77% before 2050 for the goal of climate change goals as the demand for aluminum was expected to increase by up to 80% by 2050.
The global aluminum industry has to find a way to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions to 250 million tons from the current 1.1 billion tons 2050, or the emissions were expected to hike to 1.6 billion tons then, said Chris Bayliss, IAI Deputy Secretary General.
Among the global aluminum producers, not only China, the largest producer in the world and the biggest coal consumer, but also producers who make green aluminum with hydropower must highly concern about the issue of emission reduction, aiming to meet global climate change goals.
In addition, aluminum recycling is another key way to slash emissions due to its fewer emissions while producing aluminum.
