European Crude Steel production drops 3% in June
The European crude steel production reported marginal decline during the month of June this year. The domestic production totaled 13.790 million tonnes during the month, declined 3.01% from 14.219 in June last year, according to latest data from the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

The cumulative steel output during the first half of 2019 too reported nominal decline by nearly 2.5% over the previous year.

The top five steel producing countries in the region were Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Poland. The combined production by the above five countries totaled 8.791 million tonnes, accounting for approximately 64% of the total regional output.

Germany topped the list, with a production of 3.405 million tonnes of steel during the month. The German production registered decline by 5.8% over the previous year. Italy too reported marginal decline in steel output during the month. The Italian production totaled 2.086 million tonnes, down marginally by 2.5% year-on-year.

France and Spain reported increased production, whereas Poland saw its output down by over 7% from the previous year.

The EU-28 crude steel production totaled 84.744 million tonnes during the initial six-month period of the current year. Over this period, only Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and Sweden recorded year-on-year surge in output. The biggest decline in output was recorded by Bulgaria, whose output witnessed 16% year-on-year decline.
