China’s nickel import from Indonesia jumps by 23.4% m-o-m in Oct
According to the latest data released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs on November 25th, the amount of nickel ore imports in China from Indonesia in October surged by 23.4% from the previous month, as Chinese buyers were preparing for the export ban on nickel in January.
In October, the import amount of nickel ore from Indonesia was 3.1 million tons, much more than that of September, which was 2.52 million tons. And increased about 132.1% compared to 1.34 million tons a year earlier.
The Indonesia government’s pressing ban on nickel exports prompted a rush to get nickel ore out of the country. The government imposed a temporary export ban late last month after export violations were discovered. Since then, the government has allowed 9 companies to resume exports by the end of this year.
