China's crude steel production exceeds 1 billion tons for first time in 2020
In 2020, China’s pig iron output was around 885.5 billion tons and crude steel output was around 1 billion tons, an increase of 4.3% and 5.2% year-on-year respectively. This was the first time that China’s crude steel output exceeded 1 billion tons in history.
China’s pig iron and crude steel output were expected to increase further by 2021, increasing by 2% and 2.8% year-on-year respectively, reaching 900.6 million tons and 1.08 billion tons, respectively.
The growth in steel demand in 2021 may come more from manufacturing than from real estate and infrastructure construction.
