China & Italy to strengthen cooperation on BRI
According to the report, Chinese president Xi Jinping and Italian president Sergio Mattarella reached an agreement on strengthening trade and investment between both sides during Xi’s first stop of the tour last Friday. It was told that both countries would cooperate more including logistics and maritime transport, infrastructure, port, and concrete projects along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
BRI is the Chinese plan to build infrastructure for transporting from China to other countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa, announced in 2013.
Italy would be the first G7 country to join the BRI and got the investment from China. President Mattarella said they would support the Chinese products trading to Western Europe. However, products also could be made in Italy to meet EU standards and traded to more markets in the EU.
