ATI's union workers call on sales of Midland plant
It was reported that Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI) announced that it will shut down its Midland plant in Western Pennsylvania in late June, but the union workers hoped that the company can consider selling the plant for good.
The Midland plant specializes in the production of cold-rolled stainless steel sheets, which are used in a variety of products ranging from kitchen appliances to car parts. The plant was closed in the past due to poor operation and reopened two years ago.
A few months ago, ATI also tried to realign its business, and also offer employees a voluntary retirement plan this week to reduce costs and improve profits, hoping that the plan will save about US$14 million per year.
ATI announced its 2019 sales of US$4.1 billion, an increase of 2% over 2018, and a net income increased by 16% year on year.
