Alcoa's Australian aluminum smelter desperately needs cheap power resources
According to the report, Alcoa Corporation declared that they urgently needed for cheaper electricity resources to maintain Portland aluminum smelter after 2021.

It was reported that the Portland smelter consumed about 10% of Victoria's electricity supply. Besides, the current power contract will expire in mid-2021.

The Portland smelter's power came from coal-fired power generation, and its carbon emissions were huge compared to those of other Alcoa smelters that supplied electricity with hydropower.

Obviously, Alcoa hoped that new power supply contracts can be concluded at lower prices under ideal circumstances.
