ALACERO: Latin American steel sector maintains moderate performance in Jan-May
According to the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO), the consumption of rolled steel from the Latin America region during the first five months of the year remained similar to the same period last year, while the regional production of crude steel and laminated steel grew by 3% and 6% respectively.

Although the region registered an 8% decrease in steel imports during the period, 34% of the regional consumption was still filled by imported steels. On the other hand, regional exports grew by 8% year-on-year during the period, which left a negative trade balance for the region, although the deficit was 18% lower compared to the same period of last year.
